Telluride Ski Resort is replacing Lift 9 with a new, high-speed quad chairlift. Here's an update on their progress. The new Lift 9 is scheduled to open around the holiday season.
We're here mid-september in Telluride building a ski lift. The old lift 9 had 28 towers. The new lift is only going to have 22 towers. The towers are farther apart. A lot of the towers are going to be taller, bigger. Top of Awesome Rock, there's one tower that's probably 50 ft tall. Six less towers. Everything's a little farther apart. The reduction chamber won't have near as many towers stuck in it, so that'll make things a little better. For some of you that are local here, the penalty box is going away. The ski lift itself is running the same footprint. We've moved the bottom terminal uphill about 35 ft to make a better maze. And the top of the mountain, we cut down 14 ft to accommodate a little more flat area for the guests at the top. It'll look a lot different, but essentially they're pretty much the same ski lifts, just brand new.
